Even the healthiest people are subject to stress headaches, as these are hard to completely avoid. More than three-quarters of the population, in fact, gets stress/tension headaches at one time or another. Some people even suffer from them regularly. It’s no fun to have stress headaches several times per week or even more. One thing you don’t want to do is make your tension headache worse by making them an other stress factor in your life. That’s why finding ways to let go of stress is so essential when it comes to stopping these headaches. If you keep the following suggestions in mind, you should be able to better manage your stress headaches so they’re not a major factor in your life.

When you become aware of the first twinge of pain, begin to calm your body immediately. It works best if you begin at the tips of your toes and slowly move up your body, relaxing muscle by muscle. To begin the relaxation process, tighten up each muscle individually, then let it go. Calming your physical self is a way to help to calm your emotions when you are under stress. Stress/tension headaches are often caused by physical stress on a persons body. Sometimes it takes something as simple as relaxing your body to calm your physical stress to avoid these tension headaches.

You can better deal with stress when you understand what’s causing it. The hold stress has over you is often weakened when you clearly understand why you are feeling stressed out. People who have chronic anxiety, for example, are often unaware of what exactly is causing their sense of unease. After all, when you’ve identified the problem, all that remains is deciding what the best approach to dealing with it might be. Once you know what you’re going to do, you can start to relax!

Don’t try to bottle up your stress. Stress headaches will only be worsened if you let stress build up inside you. Hiding it away won’t help you work through the stress. When you don’t face it, it only becomes more intense, and so will your stress headaches. No one can be expected to feel relaxed and content constantly. Very often, as soon as you start being honest with yourself and others about your feelings, they start to transform. Your troubles only increase when you try to sweep them under the rug.

Stress headaches can be very frustrating, especially if you seem to get them all the time. Anyone who gets headaches regularly should get a medical examination, aside from the suggestions we’ve shared here. Work both with your primary care physician and a counselor to get to the real roots of your headaches and work through them properly. Your doctor can help diagnose most accurately what is causing the headaches to happen and how to treat that cause.
